“In an increasingly dynamic world filled with over-consumption, starvation, debt, terrorism, and a laundry list of other issues, art stands as a reminder that the communication and understanding of our surroundings through the objects we encounter defines our experiences and creates the reality we live in.”
These sculptures were inspired by the desire to transform objects of consumption and decadence into functionless objects of aesthetic contemplation.
By using my hand, three dimensional scanning, and computer controlled milling to fabricate objects, these sculptures reflect my interest in the global spread of ideas, consumerism, and how technology constantly alters our visual environment and perceptions of identity.
I’m interested in extending the traditional notions of art being handmade and ‘the original’, and society’s infatuation with perfection and the future. This work investigates our culture’s relationship to objects of status and how advertising diversifies consumption, fear and beauty.
