A body is inextricably intertwined in the processing of communicating ideas and so I explain my practice from an inherently performative perspective. The recent investigations in my work have been to show where inspiration comes from and where an artwork begins. My studio practice is interdisciplinary, lead by intuitions and experiences. A popular misconception is that an artist follows a path driven by concepts that when materialized fit together like a puzzle. It is an interest of mine to develop works that are able to address a complex constellation of moments that occur in the process of materializing an artwork. These moments are what fascinate me; at times they are smooth transitions between form and idea and at other times completely abrasive.
On the occasion of State of The Art: New York I am presenting Welcome to the story of my life, a one-man show performed in the context of an art exhibition. The performer and the objects presented are in a constant state of transition. As the narrative continues through a pastiche of performance elements like musical theater tropes and pop/ jazz dance, the objects surrounding the protagonist change meaning. As the character changes and shifts the artworks presented also expand their multifarious density as symbols. This dizzied state of associations is at the core of the project, expressing a manic and thrilling relationship to a contemporary interdisciplinary art practice.
