The Rite of Spring was performed in and against the city of New York in the summer of 2008. Inspired by the Beaux-Arts Ball in 1931, where the giants of Modernist architecture dressed as the landmarks they created, The Rite of Spring imagines the city in perpetual self-performance. Starting with a groundbreaking ceremony in Central Park, the buildings that lend culture its credence perform their own inception, deliver on their promise of artistic galvanization, and lay claim to the laurels of civility.
