Martin Hannett: Factory Records Musical MagicianTony Wilson called him ‘The Magician’, co-founder of Factory Records Martin Hannett created a soundtrack for a generation producing a host of Manchester’s most iconic bands from Joy Division to New Order to John Cooper Clarke.

Colin Sharp, Hannett’s closest friend and ex lead singer of the Durutti Column has written for the first time about the life and tragic death of this legendary and influential figure.

To mark this publication Urbis is to host an evening dedicated to Martin Hannett.

Following the launch of Colin Sharp’s book ‘Who Killed Martin Hannett’, there will be a discussion panel talking about Martin, Factory Records and the 80s Manchester music scene.  Led by CP Lee (author of ‘Shake Rattle & Rain’ and a founder member of Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias), a distinguished panel will include Mick Middles the first journalist to interview Joy Division for the music press and the author of ‘Torn Apart’, Martin Moscrop founder member of ‘A Certain Ratio’ and still a songwriter and producer with Island Music Publishing and Colin Sharp himself.

 

After the discussion Colin Sharp will be playing a selection of Martin Hannett produced songs both well known and more obscure tracks, drinks will be available.
